Hello,

I just picked up a beautiful 1918 BAR Cutaway USGI Training Rifle that's 7ft tall and was used to demonstrate how to operate, disassemble and reassemble the rifle. This cutaway is missing the trigger and bolt groups, the flash hider, buttplate and magazine.

If anyone can tell me where i might find some parts or scale drawings so I can restore this beautiful piece of history, I would greatly appreciate it.

Please send me an email or PM for pics.

Thanks, Ray

Finding parts or drawings for the training device is, I think, going to be difficult. I would check first with GunParts Corp (Numrich).

You might want to consider buying a poor condition training device for the parts. I see the trainers come up for sale occasionally, often with missing parts. I think the last one I saw was for sale at the Small Arms Review show in Phoenix several years ago. They are neat pieces, but require a whole lot of space. Good luck on your hunt.

The image of the trainer below, taken at the John Browning Museum in Ogden, UT, is posted so that others may see what the trainer looks like. (Photo credit to WW2headquarters.com)

Hello Charlie,

Thanks for the heads up, I contacted OldGuns and Numrich but haven't heard back. Great idea about the Browning museum, didn't even occur to me but they might have some docents or old timers who might have some info.

Thanks, ray

Congratulations on your acquisition--these things are getting harder and harder to find! You should try William J Ricca or "Bill Ricca's Collector site" or something like that. For years he was "The Expert" on these, and had the ammo for sale. Not so much any more, but he still lists a "history" on the double size trainers. He may be able to guide you. Good luck.
