I have several new items which I have purchased to recreate the kit which I carried in Astan. I am trying to weather them with some fake afghan moondust. Does anyone have any idea on recreating that talcum powder light yellowish stuff? I bought some weathering powder but it would just be too expensive to buy enough to do the gear which I want to weather. Thanks for any info.

Can you explain to me what "cor pigment" is?

I am not a modeler and have only dabbled in this for my purpose of weathering this gear. Thanks for the idea

It is a color based powder often used in oil or other based paints to change or create colors etc.

I would think using it in dry form mixed with another powder would create the dust you were after if you can match the color. Look up the word online and I'm sure there are a lot of options or suggestions for its use

If you are looking for something that will wash out. Go to an art supply shop and get the powder poster paint. They come in large plastic bottles and come in many colors that you can mix to your satisfaction. I use this on my 1/6 scale vehicles for weathering and texture. I use hair spray to lock it in. If I want to change it up the stuff will wash off.

When you lock it in with hair spray does it darken the color any or blow away the powder off the object? Thanks for the info.

On a model it depends on how much you spray on and the colors used. I never had an issue blowing the powder off. I used paint brush's to apply the dry powder and would dab more powder on the hair spray coated area.

Okay good to know. This will be going into webbing so maybe it will not get blown out when I apply it.

I would think a 1 inch or similiar type paint brush would be a good way to dry apply the powder or pigment powder mix.

Possibly a small sponge.

Just got an idea for this fellas. What about mixing brown yellow and white street chalk to get the desired color? I am afraid if I use some of these pigments on the gear if it ever gets wet I will be screwed.

Maybe try it on a roached out item or shirt.See how it reacts?

Yeah I have some older pouches I will probably give it a shot on first. One side I will probably put the plaster on let it set and then scrape the excess off. Another sifted and then applied. I imagine the sifted then applied will be best and will give me the best chance of correction should it all be a horrible mistake.

Ok so my plaster and paint idea was terrible or maybe I just got the wrong ratios.

In the end I went with 'MIG Weathering Powder" It is absolutely beautiful and indistinguishable from my original pouches that went with me to Afghanistan. Thanks for the advice guys.
