Jennings Lane Posted July 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2018 WW1 era. Mock firing squad? Fort Monroe I found this in a unidentified 1920's photo album.
268th C.A. Posted July 7, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2018 For sure...they would not shoot anyone against the barracks wall...My dad did his training at Ft. Monroe. Very interesting photo.
world war I nerd Posted July 7, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2018 That's the first thing that I noticed … They were shooting against the barracks wall. Not very likely. I think during WWI only19 or 20 soldiers were executed. I believe that most were hanged (but I'm not entirely sure on that particular point). Nevertheless, an interesting photo. I wonder what the real story behind it was?

gomorgan Posted July 7, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2018 As I recall hanging was the method used in the states, think this was staged photo, been a couple of times I'd of shot the cook's or at least wounded the mess sergeant.
268th C.A. Posted July 8, 2018 Share #7 Posted July 8, 2018 LOL. I've seen a lot of photos of guys playing like that...Ft Monroe has not changed much. But its been 10 years since I was last there. My Dads barrack's were still there. He enlisted in 1940. The fort was turned over too the city of Hampton, a while back. So I have no clue what it looks like now.
