Any Croix de Guerre Lists Available For US WW1 Personnel ?

Hi Guys, I recently picked up another WW1 PHM group which included a French CdG. IIRC correctly, didn't either OMSA or Planchet Press ever publish a listing of them ? I think it may be a partial list, but I figure it would still be worth looking into. I've already checked the relevant regimental & divisional histories, but no luck with either. ANY help will be much appreciated. THANK YOU

Gleim published a roll of US recipients of the WW I Belgian awards(including the CdG) reprinted by Planchet Research Group in 2001. It's probably of no use to you but there is a privately published roll of French CdG awards to British artillery officers.

I haven't seen a list. I do know of one for the French LdeH recipients...but that's also unhelpful trivia. The only lists I've ever seen are ones that are sporadically included in individual unit histories, and even those are sometimes incomplete. :(

Hello Gents, & a very Happy 4th of July to all. I just wish to THANK everyone for their kind replies, I truly appreciate them. Yup, I've picked up yet another Rhode Island WW1 78th Division PHM Group for the collection, which now makes 3 from that particular unit combination. All of them ID out to various Companies, but all to the 310th I/R of the 78th Division ! To come across any RI related Heart is enough to make my day, for based on the number of troops from the state, combined with the percentage of PHM's awarded, there's not all that many of them 'out there'. Then, when I came across 3 of them, all to the 310 / 78 combination, & all within 1 year time frame, I just had to look into it. Well, there does appear to be an apparent reason for such a high percentage to that particular combination of state, unit(s) & time frame factors. Just prior to April of 1918, the 78th Division, & the 310th Infantry in particular received a fairly large influx of replacements. These new men hailed from a few assorted states, with the majority being mostly from NJ, ILL., & RI. This large influx of men shortly before heading overseas was to replace the large group of 78th men who were transferred earlier to the 82nd Division, & to bring the the 78th up to full combat strength. So now, we begin the research & documentation process. At least I don't have to go through too many different unit histories !! THANKS again Guys.

Sorry, I guess I should have noted his name & relevant unit data !

>>> HE WAS;

PVT. Leander B. ( Bernard ) DOLAN, ASN 2941283, of provenance & Cranston, R.I.

Assigned to the 78th Division, Company F, 310th Infantry ( 2nd Battalion / 155th Inf. Brigade )

He was WIA on 16 October, in the vicinity of St. Juvin, France, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, for which he was awarded PHM No. 43387

I know that somewhere around 11,589 French CdG's were awarded to U.S. Personnel for WW1 service. What always has perplexed me was exactly how, or why were some USGI's awarded them, & somewhere not ? I'm aware the OMSA published a monograph of French GdG award regulations, though I still haven't picked up a copy. Well, here's the basic data on Pvt. Leander B. Dolan. If anyone has anything about him, I'd really appreciate hearing from them. THANKS Guys !

Have you considered getting his records from NPRC or locally (often filed at a local town or city hall)? His awards would be documented in those records.

Hello Dom:

Years ago I secured a copy of War Dept G.O. No. 55 dated 26 April 1919. It consists entirely of a long list of about 1200 AEF veterans who received the French CdeG with silver star mounted on the ribbon. Regretably, your Leander Dolan is not on this list.
