BigJohn#3RD Posted June 27, 2018 Share #12 Posted June 27, 2018 It is great to have the Purple Heart to a soldier who gave all for America in WW2 and KW in in the USA. I searched NARA and found that he was captured on 30 January 44. A quick look online and one see that "they (Ranger Force), moved on to Anzio on 22 January 1944. The entire 6615th Ranger Force (Provisional) was destroyed behind enemy lines in a heavily outnumbered encounter at Cisterna, Italy on 31 January 1944. https://aad.archives.gov/aad/display-partial-records.jsp?f=645&mtch=1&q=PASCOE%23EDWARD%23A%23%23%23%23%23%23%23%23&cat=WR26&dt=466&tf=F&bc=sl Page 326 of Col Robert W. Blacks "The Ranger Force Darby's Rangers in World War II" book you will Ed's name, his service number, serving as a Private with Co D, 1st Ranger Bn, captured and held in Stalag 2B. FYI the book can be found online in digital format for free download. Further review of NARA WW2 Records shows he reenlisted on 4 September 1946. https://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-detail.jsp?dt=893&mtch=2&cat=WR26&tf=F&q=PASCOE%23EDWARD%23A%23%23%23%23%23%23%23%23&bc=sl&rpp=10&pg=1&rid=4237209&rlst=4237209,5900983 Korean War NARA confirms that Ed was KIA on 20 July 1950 while serving with the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division and was a regular army soldier at the time of his death. There are four separate listing about Ed's death in Korea. https://aad.archives.gov/aad/free-text-search-results.jsp?cat=WR27&bc=sl&q=PASCOE%23EDWARD%23A%23%23%23%23%23%23%23%23%23&btnSearch=Search&as_alq=&as_anq=&as_epq=&as_woq= Eds Army Service Number was the same in all the above references with the exception of the last NARA which had RA as the prefix of his service number. So anyone would be hard-pressed to find much more provenance for this Purple Heart connection to a WW2 Ranger who was killed in action in the first month of the Korean War. God Bless Ranger and Rest In Peace. John
