Greetings all. I have a pic of a Vanguard marked wing with a hallmark I have never seen before.

The pics are somewhat small and not a very good shot of the back. But they are different in style and Marking to the two Vanguard wings I own.

The owner says they are also marked sterling. Cant really see it but ......

What says the forum members? What era are these from? Has anyone seen or does anyone own a pair like these?

I will post photos of one of the Vanguard NY wings in my collection for comparison.

After enlarging and sharpening I do see the sterling mark on the right side under the pin.

Here is a good thread about Vanguard wings:

http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/259737-vanguard-wwii-navigator-wing/?hl=%2Bvanguard+%2Bwwii

From post#10 (by B17-John):

"Thanks for the reference Patrick, it is actually Gemsco that picked up the Amico wing dies.

I have a few Amico marked wings that are "over-stamped" Gemsco.

As for Vanguard, I corresponded with the company about six years ago.

Apparently Vanguard only made Navy and Marine insignia from their beginnings till after WWIl.

I was also told that they used two different vendors for USN wing badges during WWII.

It was not till after WWll that they made USAF and Army insignia and badges.

This was all based recollections so there may be some inaccuracy.

As for the hallmarks, the Vanguard eagle with the large V was trademarked in 1956 and used till

it was replaced by the current registered trademark in 1984.

John"

The post WWII Air Force wings all use block lettering (IIRC). I am of the opinion that these USN aviator wings are likely post-WWII (or even after KW). Whilst the USN aviator wings with the script hallmark is probably WWII-KW vintage.

I suspect that with all the old stock floating around, there was probably a fair amount of overlap

Thank you for the info Patrick ! If I'm not wrong, I think they do resemble the AMICO pattern in the Berries and shape of the wing?
