Persian Gulf Command Posted June 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2018 Can anyone verify or not verify if this is a WW2 period field map protractor, which would have been carried in a M38 map case? Thanks!
king802 Posted June 21, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2018 Ive got an original WW2 one, Ill dig it out to compare. I was looking for one for a long time and I had one in an Officers notebook all the time. Rich
Persian Gulf Command Posted June 21, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted June 21, 2018 Rich, It would be great if you can provide a description of yours compared to the one in the photo. If they are different, please post a picture as it would appear you have a confirmed example. John
TheGrayGhost Posted June 22, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2018 Meter is spelled Metre on this unit. Metre is usually considered the British spelling.
king802 Posted June 22, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 22, 2018 Mine is completely different- no mention of metres. Mine is in inches and is a square shape. I can’t get the image small enough (one of the reasons I rarely post anymore). Rich
Persian Gulf Command Posted June 22, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted June 22, 2018 So, this Arched Protractor is being sold by British vendor. The seller can not verify it is WW2 just British Military. Based on this it may work in a British post-war Map Case but was not GI issued. Thanks for all the comments and information!
Browninggunner688 Posted June 23, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 23, 2018 Hi there. I had one of these protractors in my map case when I was in the Royal Artillery (1996-2002), still have it packed away with my gear. It says on it Protractor RA ( Royal Artillery ) it's definitely modern British equipment, I got mine by private purchase from one of the camp shops where I was based. Hope this helps. Nick.
