willysmb44 Posted June 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2018 I was wondering if any of you hae ever seen this book or have a copy of it? https://www.amazon.com/dp/2840483327/?coliid=I2CVZVKJMI40TE&colid=2WHSO88P0TKH4&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Id never heard of it before and found a mention of it on eBay. Looks like De Trez had a hand in it but Im not sure. If youve seen it, do you think its worth the price?

ken88 Posted June 29, 2018 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2018 I have it, it's from the so called "hors series" (limited edition) series by Heimdal. It's not a bad book but only covers very basic information about all of the operations that involved the 82nd. It also highlights uniforms from commanders, Ridgway's helmet, Ben Vandervoort's jackets and such.. If you want a really good book about the 82nd, buy Burning Bridges or Bridges are Ours and be amazed. Now those are definitely worth your money. If you are interested in the 82nd at all you won't ever regret buying those, world class books! That's just an advise, but if you ask me the uniforms series are more of a souvenir type of thing that remind me of museum shops. I'd save the pennies for De Trez' real master pieces... Cheers

I don't have the new De Trez books but I have most of the H&C books that have AB stuff in them, so it sounds like I already have the info at this point. As for the museum comment, I found that ironic. In May, my wife and I were in Normandy and I hit a few museum gift shops and found almost no books that are 'collector' type books that folks like us would like. I was disappointed in that, as many of these European books fly under the radar of many American collectors, and I was hoping to find some stuff I hadn't seen (or heard of) before. All the books I found at Ste mere and Omaha Beach museum gift shops were generalized histories for the tourists and nothing else.
ken88 Posted June 29, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 29, 2018 I'm fairly certain that you aren't going to learn anything new should you buy the uniforms book... There's really not a lof of quality information or extensive descriptions of equipment in there. The generalized aspect is indeed what's reminding me of the tourist shops. One mission is 5 pages at best, half of that are photos... I highly recommend De Trez' other books though, because most are real treasures. Yes they're quite expensive but books like Burning Bridges or Orange is the Color of the Day will only go up in value. The information in them is truly phenomenal. They are literally filled with hundreds of pictures and stories you won't see or hear anywhere else. If you already have books like American Warriors or Gi Collector's Guide, definitely save the money for his Operations Series. The books about Market Garden especially will easily take a week or more to finish.
willysmb44 Posted June 29, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted June 29, 2018 Thanks, Ken.I have De Trez's first books from the 90s, and I do want the Market Garden books someday, maybe I'll ask for them for Christmas (my wife has really not reacted well to the cover prices of some reference books I've got in the last few years. A triple-digit cover price might just cause her to have a stroke...)
