nbolinger Posted June 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2018 Picked these up with a Spanish American war machete , the big one 15 1/2 inches around and the one with the hole is 9 1/2 inches, i showed the one with a hole on the top to a friend and he didn't think it was a cannon ball? Any info would be much appreciated .

917601 Posted June 20, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 20, 2018 Measure the diameter of the ball. A 6 lber, 12 lber, etc all had a specific diameter. From memory, a six pounder was 3.57". Internet search will give you specifics. Remember, a lot of " cannonballs" were wrought iron fence post tops, common in the 1800-1900's. The smaller ones look like grapeshot, which also had exact diameters.
