Rakkasan187 Posted June 20, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2018 Gap, This may also be the oval for the 187th Infantry Regiment.. They changed from the orange and blue oval from the Korean War to the current Blue, white, red in the mid 50's as well,,, and is still the current oval. I wore this oval when assigned to 3/187 infantry in the 80's. Leigh

468abnarm Posted June 20, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 20, 2018 I would say 187th Inf of the 11th Abn Div from the 57 - 58 era.
Rakkasan187 Posted June 20, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 20, 2018 Gap, I am not well versed on the manufacturing techniques of the ovals and also based on multiple units using the same color scheme and designs it is difficult at times to determine which unit the oval actually belongs to..' There are some very knowledgeable airborne folks here that may be able to expand and explain better than I... Leigh

Allan H. Posted July 9, 2018 Share #9 Posted July 9, 2018 This background trimming is the one worn by NCBUs of the 82nd Airborne Division. I would date this one to the immediate post WWII era through the 1950's. The 187th RCT changed ovals from a orange and royal blue background trimming to these same colors in the 1950's. My experience with the 187th ovals is that they are normally larger than the ones worn by the 82nd. The WWII version of this oval is invariably embroidered on red felt rather than twill, hence my ID of it being of post war manufacture.
