silverplate Posted June 17, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2018 I thought I would share with you carbine fans a new box of carbine ammunition I just added to my collection. The .30 caliber carbine tracer round was developed late in 1943 by Remington Arms, based upon a request from British forces in Burma. The original cartridge was assigned the "T24" nomenclature, later changed to "M16" in early 1944 when it went into mass production. Further development led to the "T43" in late 1945, followed by the "M27" in 1946. The M16 and M27 boxes can still be found, and that's what I was looking for when I discovered this box of T24. I had never even seen a picture of one, and the box label is identical to the Remington M16 label. The rounds are red tipped and the head stamp is "RA 44", so it must have been produced just prior to the changeover to M16.
Charlie Flick Posted June 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2018 That is very cool ammo. I have never seen that box before now. Something else to look for. (That is a looooong list.) Thanks for the post. Charlie
Brian Keith Posted June 20, 2018 Share #3 Posted June 20, 2018 It is interesting to note it was re-packed (probably in spam cans) at the Evansville Chrysler Plant in Evansville, IN in June of 1944. Very nice box of ammo! BKW
