barryeye Posted June 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2018 Gentleman. I have the opportunity to purchase a rubber handled M4 bayonet for my small M4 collection. I can get one via a private purchase or from a local auction site. I have yet to see the one from the auction house but have a photograph of the private purchase one. It is from a reputable collector that I have purchased items from before. What the two bayonets have in common is the statement that they are unmarked. No makers name. Now I know that the rubber handled M4s were unofficially refurbished G.I. bayonets, but if that is the case, why was the original marked guard not retained? sactroop Posted June 12, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2018 If I remember correctly a bunch came into the country a few years ago that were unmarked and thought to originate from South Korea.
barryeye Posted June 12, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted June 12, 2018 Just puzzled as to why the guards would need replacing during a refurbishment. I know the one pictured came via South Korea Sactroop. They are not a common bayonet here (N.Z.) and the one at auction is the first I have seen. Trinity Posted June 12, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 12, 2018 In Gary Cunninghams Bayo Points 17 on Frank Trzaskas website, theres a nice write-up on the M4 bayonets, including the rubber-handled M4 bayonets (see link below). It may provide some additional information as to why at least some were unmarked and/or guards replaced. http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/bayo_points_17.htm
