I've had this map case for a number of years and just found it again.  It was from the estate of a US Army officer who entered the army prior to WWII and then was commissioned in WWII and went on to serve in Korea and Vietnam.  It doesn't seem to match any of the WWI or WWII US Army map cases that I've seen over the years and I see no indication of any maker's marks.  Does anyone know if it's GI Issue?  If so, from when?

It's a commercial copy of an issue-design. I have an issue one that is the same except for heavier canvas and lift the dot fasteners, mine is JQMD dated 1921. I recall seeing one of these commercial copies having a small Gemsco tag at one point?

At any rate, nice period piece he probably bought at the PX and carried with him.

Many thanks. I've always suspected it was a non GI map case but I was never able to find one that looked the same.

Patterned after a WWI one. Had a leather 1918 RIA one in very good condition. Son has it and most of WWI collection now. Downsizing.
