doyler Posted June 5, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 5, 2018 Agree...the rough leather on back isn't typical of originals, staples, stitching etc.
SKIPH Posted June 5, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 5, 2018 Totally agree with byf41, and Ron Doyler. Checked it out the other day, compared it with my original, and that pictured in Bill Walters book. What you notice is the originals have a fairly smooth backside, not roughed out like the one pictured. The coffin shaped staples don't look quite right either, too rounded looking. It does have the 10 staples at the throat, but can't make out the maker's stamp to verify legitimacy. Pass on it, I did. SKIP
sactroop Posted June 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 5, 2018 Agree with the above. The staples do look like the kind you can usually find these days as opposed to the originals. It does look like it was assembled long enough ago to have acquired some natural aging which tends to make evaluation a little more difficult, but this one doesn't really look right. ccyooper Posted June 6, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 6, 2018 There are multiple flaws in the scabbard as identified. The staples are a little off and I was asked about the flat rivets on the steel guard. They can be either domed or flat as Moose Co used both.
