Nice orig. Utica. Are US arms readily available in Germany?

Yes, they are. But I am in Merville-Franceville right now... D-Day celebrations!

Blacksmith

Could be a manufacturing aberration, but I’ve never seen staples on an original M6 be proud of the sheath like that.

The sheath is a beauty.  What is the date on the sheath - I can see "19".

It‘s 1943...Posted Image

It has been modified for a batter fit on the pistol belt...

Interesting scabbard modifications. Only the second one Ive seen with the 1910 hook lowered like that. Dont recall the staples being moved before.

Well, the staples have moved about 2mm up, you can see the impressions in the leather...

As in there are no staples on the ones you’ve seen?

The staples or (alligator lacing) is proud of the top of the leather. Alligator lacing was for turning leather or canvas straps into continuous belts by connecting the two ends with a hinge. Thats why there is space between the staples. Normally there would be another lace with a captured small rod holding the two together.

IMHO, the the reason for the lacing to be proud of the top of the leather had nothing to do with function in regards to its intended purpose for the sheath. Just it was easier and more efficient to assemble them with the technic used for many decades.
