GeneralCheese Posted June 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2018 I bought these pictures recently and thought you'd all be very interested to see them. They are each approximately 9x20, and are dated 1-12-45, which was 1 month and 1 week before the battle of Iwo Jima began. On one of them, the Blue 1 beachhead is marked out, and comparing to reference maps is in the correct spot when related to the visible airfields and forested area. There are also some positions marked further up on the island, A, B, and C, with some kind of marking next to each.

GeneralCheese Posted June 2, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted June 2, 2018 I also scanned the photos and stitched them together if anyone wants to zoom in on a nice clear version. It's a much larger 1.8MB file so I uploaded it on imgur. https://i.imgur.com/UnrSEbj.jpg

Brian Keith Posted June 3, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2018 Great Find and nice showing it in context with the whole island. Even at this point, it had been hit pretty hard with bombs/shells. Thanks for posting them. BKW
