USMC 13th Defense BN shoulder patch - unusual make?

As usual, I come here seeking knowledge--

This patch came from the family of a WW2 Marine officer who served in a Def Bn in GTMO and then in the Pacific during the Okinawa campaign---I recognized the patch as the 13th Defense Bn but.... has any one seen one like this before?

it appears to be sewn onto a thick piece of cotton and doesn't look like it was ever intended to be cut from it. and it's perfectly centered on the white cloth...the red and blue portions appear to be twill and sewn to the cloth---the white part of the shield uses the background cloth for color----.Ideas?

Wake--thanks for the info and insights--here are the pictures I probably should have posted showing a comparison to the more normally seen 13th Def BN patches - these came from the same family.

I have one just like that right now and was told it was made in the Caribbean. Also bought one on a khaki background from same person, and uncut just like this.

Nice---looks like a close match---the officer served at GTMO early in the war before being transferred to the PTO---so a Caribbean-made patch would make sense... I would guess that Caribbean-made "theater-mades" would possibly be the rarest "theater-made" source except maybe Iceland-made....
