Censoring own mail?

Have you guys ever seen this? I have a bunch of this vets letters and he seems to have censored all of his own mail?? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of censoring mail? Couldn’t he have wrote anything in the letters and passed it himself?

he is a Lt and I have a lot of mail from ww2 and I see this a lot ~ on officer mail~ ATM away from computer but sure it happened and was approved best explanation can give u now

officers could censor own mail during ww2~ if you google that you will find more info more detail explanation ~ dave

General Patton censored his own mail.

 

Everyone of his war time letters (and even some post war ones) have 2 autographs.

I have seen lots of mail from the front to home that was self-censored, all officers....the ones I recall were at Battalion level.
