Tonomachi Posted May 24, 2018 Share #5 Posted May 24, 2018 I'm not 100% sure but have always wondered about the identity of this DI myself. You find the one posted above by Teamski with the older type fastener (screw back) but you also see them with a pin back like the NS Meyer hallmarked piece below. This I believe is the DI for the 40th Infantry Division when they were formed by combining the National Guard Units from California, Nevada and Utah which is reflected in the design of the crest. Based on the DIs in the link provided by doinworkinvans there was a design change of a similar unit crest only different colors used by the 740th Ordnance Maintenance crest after WW2. So my guess is that your DI is the post WW2 design change of the crest worn by the 40th Infantry Division. Since the 40th Infantry Division currently wears a different unit crest (see below) my guess is that they started wearing it after 1954 based on the dates in the mentioned link. There is also another similar DI (see below) worn by an armor unit within the 40th Infantry Division which has a 1950s era hallmark which could place it between those dates in the link from 1946 - 1954. atb Posted May 24, 2018 Share #6 Posted May 24, 2018 I believe them all to be iterations of the DUI for the 40th Infantry Division/40th Armored Division HQ and NCBU's from the various times different state's National Guard units made up the division.
