vintageproductions Posted May 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2018 So besides Military Unit Christmas Cards, my wife also collects WWII miniature military themed wooden shoes. Was moving the showcases around in the home office and thought I would show these.

heftaa01 Posted May 24, 2018 Share #5 Posted May 24, 2018 Nice! I see the 28th Wooden Shoes more frequently than other units, I wonder why?
manayunkman Posted May 24, 2018 Share #6 Posted May 24, 2018 Those Dutch, they'll do anything for a buck. Where do these shoes originate from? Are they souvenirs sold to GI's after the war?
everforward Posted May 24, 2018 Share #7 Posted May 24, 2018 Pretty cool. I've seen a fair amount of 29th ID-themed examples over the years, but for some reason I've never had a pair for the collection.....I need to remedy that..!
Bodes Posted May 24, 2018 Share #8 Posted May 24, 2018 I just bought a pair of WW1 USMC 2nd Infantry division wooden shoes....One has the indian head inside the star on the toe, the other having the EGA....One has the year 1918, the other 1919...One says Germany, the other Souvenir...The carving inside crudely done....Bodes
world war I nerd Posted May 24, 2018 Share #9 Posted May 24, 2018 I'm pretty sure that the wooden shoes are French made. Lots of Doughboys wrote home about the French people wearing wooden clogs as pretty much all of the French leather was diverted towards the war effort. Dogsbody Posted May 25, 2018 Share #11 Posted May 25, 2018 Those Dutch, they'll do anything for a buck. Where do these shoes originate from? Are they souvenirs sold to GI's after the war? And why wouldn't we...…. On a serious note: they could be French, Belgian or Dutch. These 'shoes' were mostly worn in these countries. Bugme Posted May 25, 2018 Share #12 Posted May 25, 2018 Does she collect Cheese ? That's only done in Wisconsin.
manayunkman Posted May 25, 2018 Share #13 Posted May 25, 2018 The Dutch throw their cheese in the ocean they have so much of it. But putting wooden shoes on your children guarantees that you will know where they are in a supermarket. You need to wear 3 pairs of socks though so they are somewhat comfortable.
