Can't find any image or information on this Giannini.

Has a closed in area under swords with holes and the SV under.

Thinking Nam or Korea era's?????

 

What does the SV stand for? Service??

SV as you surmised does stand for Service, the Service Troop or if past the late 40s, Service Company, (the 1st Cav Division drops it's Cavalry unit designations of Squadrons and Troops at this time and switches to Battalions and Companies) in this case of the 8th Cavalry, wouldn't be from the 1960s past 1958 that is. a shot of the rear will help date it perhaps.

Emerson's "Encyclopedia of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms" shows a similar device on page 109, Figure 7-65 with the notation "In the 1950's the 1st Cavalry Division was stationed in Korea. Officers of the 8th Cavalry's Service Company wore this Korean-made insignia during that time."

 

The text also states " Before the battalion and battle group concept, cavalry regiments (organized as infantry) in Korea wore crossed sabers, as shown in Fig. 7-65 for the Service Company, 8th Cavalry, ..."
