MilitaryPicker1941 Posted May 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 19, 2018 Hey everyone, today Id like to share it a bronze star and paperwork that belonged to PFC R_o_b_e_r_t_W_u_t_h_r_i_c_h. Robert served as a truck driver with the 502nd PIR where he participated in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns and earned the Bronze Star. According to his obituary, during the Battle of the Bulge Robert was instrumental in keeping the troops alive through the winter because he was the only one who knew how to butcher animals. Really happy to be the caretaker of this BS and glad I was able to share this with everyone. I also have a lederhosen that he picked up during the war, but its too nasty outside to take pictures of it. MilitaryPicker1941 Posted May 19, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted May 19, 2018 That’s it for now. If anyone know if the BS engraving is wartime, and if it’s possible to find/get the citation for his BS I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks again, Noah

MilitaryPicker1941 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted May 20, 2018 That is 1950s machine engraving . Does the Medal have an OLC on it? Kurt No, the medal doesnt have an oak leaf cluster on it. Is it normal to be issued a bronze star that much later? Thanks Noah
KASTAUFFER Posted May 20, 2018 Share #11 Posted May 20, 2018 The reason why I asked about the Oakleaf cluster is because in the late 1940s Bronze Btars were issued based on CIB conversion awards. Most of these are engraved in the 1950s style. Also when the certificates became available in the late 1940s sometimes they re-issued medals when they issued the certificate.
