Thanks to another forum member I was able to add a key missing piece to my 34th ID collection...a named and identified uniform (with extras). He was a member of the anti-tank company of the 168th regiment. He was a Purple Heart recipient but have yet to research the extent of his injuries. The riker mount contains a photo of him as well as some photos taken in Italy. The lower left photo is of Mt. Vesuvius erupting in March of 1944. A handkerchief with "Italy" embroidered on it also accompanied the uniform. The remaining items do not belong with the uniform.

Some extras that I've collected on the including a unit history, roster, letters, and reunion card. The zippo is modern postwar (I thought it looked good with everything)

This particular shell was my first unit marked helmet that I ever purchased. A later learned that it was published in a book. The liner a bought some time later and pairs nicely with the shell.

The photos that came with the uniform. The patch is a nice greenback patch with OD border.

Excellent display!  I love the 34th ID - First researched and reeancted this great division in the early 1980s.  Used to know many vets, including Nisei.  Thanks for posting.

Best,

Bill K.

great Ike and a great 34th infantry division collection! I love it especially because I focus on the ww2 italian campaign and the 34th was one of the division that first entered my hometown (Modena)in spring 1945

Jaw dropping does not come close to describing this one! This is what all of us in the hobby that specialize in one unit dream of.

I would have a hard time not displaying this one the middle of my living room much to the chagrin of my wife 😂

Incredible group!

Thanks for all the comments. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get it displayed properly in my man cave along with all the other uniforms and groups.

Then I have some unit marked pottery, cups, vase, water pitcher, all have markings for 109th med, 135th inf, 34th signal co. All made in Italy. Also some unit histories. And a copy of Dogfaces who smiled through tears written by homer ankrum. Who autographed it to someone I do not know. He was also a 34th div vet. Then my small but growing 34th div patch collection. Well that's it. Hope to add more. Thanks for letting me share this threadrps20180517_194634_349.jpg rps20180517_194654_974.jpg rps20180517_194723_320.jpg

Is the "Dogfaces" book a type of unit history?

That 168 Inf. anti-tank company is a rare bird as most of these guys went into the POW camp at the Kasserine, several from my home town. The 168th took a thumping that day but came back stronger. A great uniform to a pretty good unit..

Best,

Bill
