TheMariner Posted May 13, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2018 If I had thought there was any chance this was real I would not be posting I would be buying, curious everyone's thoughts on this one only $325 engraving looks totally wrong for the period, ribbon looks brand new so most likely added recently! Any idea the history behind this fake? I want to post It before it was sold or removed! A quick search will yield the info about his heroism and the fact he was in the 508th AB! Thoughts welcome! jeffs1130 Posted May 13, 2018 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2018 Medal looks modern to me... Looks like someone added a slot brooch for the WWII effect... You can see they over did the stitches/loops for the brooch, too much thread. If you look at the sellers other stuff you'll see similar stitching jobs... I'd stay away! My thoughts exactly and he threw it up at what would be a stupid cheap price to move it quick and get an unsuspecting sucker!
jeffs1130 Posted May 13, 2018 Share #6 Posted May 13, 2018 At least he's honest and listed it as "Date Unknown" lol Ask him if the ribbon glows under UV light... I'll bet he'll say he doesn't have a UV light! Knows it will glow like a Christmas tree! Oh and he's giving 10% to charity! How nice!

Dave Posted May 13, 2018 Share #8 Posted May 13, 2018 The seller is widely known for peddling fakes. The Purple Heart he's selling is officially engraved, as far as I can see, but was probably a spelling error and was sold for scrap a couple of decades ago. Dave Posted May 13, 2018 Share #9 Posted May 13, 2018 Given how many of his offerings are re-sold due to buyers backing out...it's wise to stay far, far from him...
TheMariner Posted May 13, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted May 13, 2018 Im surprised he hasn't been banned from selling on ebay seems half the stuff he sells is stuff that is banned on ebay, I guess he goes for quick sales, other people post that stuff up and it gets taken right down! Frank J Oreopello was a in the army 1943-46 but died 2008, no information he received a Purple Heart.
TheMariner Posted May 13, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted May 13, 2018 Update sadly someone went on and bought the DSC for $325, so he relisted it for more money then it sold for last time!
Orion27 Posted May 13, 2018 Share #13 Posted May 13, 2018 Frank J. Oropello (not Oreopello) was a Ranger in WWII. https://books.google.com/books?id=Yrhh30YpKhYC&pg=PA370&lpg=PA370&dq=frank+j.+oropello&source=bl&ots=2lj9XUEvO9&sig=aNg4-6rxBcA4bTVD8rwbup2BbgA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwig7s-kgYPbAhUFyFkKHZZ8ArUQ6AEIMzAD#v=onepage&q=frank%20j.%20oropello&f=false Maybe the engraver was hungry when he was doing it.
