Hi all,

Had this grouping for a couple of weeks now and wanted to share it! This unit encompasses a couple of things I like, I like WWII ground based radar units and the battle of Okinawa so why not both? This vet brought a few things back as well. Lots of photos of Okinawa. Hope you all enjoy!

Here's a bit of history on MAWS-8, really an interesting history for such a small unit. Can't wait to get his file in!

(The German belt may have belonged to a brother, but was with the group or he could have traded for it at some point!)

Holy smokes that's awesome. For a few years I owned a dog tag to a MAWS 8 Marine who earned a purple heart in a big depot fire while on Okinawa.

  • 4 years later...

I have some scanned material of Marine AWS-8.  My dad, Master Technical Seargent was in the Squadron and received the Bronze Star for some of his activities.

Master Technical Seargent Harld M. Meyers was maintenance chief for his group and took over when Capt. Casserly was injured during the landing on Okinawa.
