ww2guymandude Posted April 30, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2018 Got this jacket in the other day. Beautiful wolf brown ribbon bars, with an early blue star on the PUC, as well as some nice EGAs. According to the seller this was purchased from, “Henry E. Gibson” was part of the 4th Motor Transport Bn of the 4th MarDiv, and participated in combat on Iwo Jima. If anyone could help me find some more info on the man, it would be greatly appreciated! -Evan
ww2guymandude Posted May 14, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted May 14, 2018 Could anyone provide me with some info on “Henry E. Gibson”? I just now decided to research him further and can’t find anything proving his association with the 4th motor transport battalion.
Captainofthe7th Posted May 14, 2018 Share #3 Posted May 14, 2018 The Marine you're looking for is Harry E. Gibson. Looks like mostly A Co, 4th Mtr Bn from Oct 1943 ish through Iwo. He was a driver...I did see a footnote that he was there for Saipan and Tinian. Rob
Sabre117 Posted May 14, 2018 Share #4 Posted May 14, 2018 Afternoon,I couldn't find information on a "Henry E. Gibson" that served with the 4th Motor Transport Battalion.I would assume that this service coat actually belongs to Harry E. Gibson, who was trained as an Automotive Mechanic at the Motor Transport School at Camp Lejeune, NC, in the Spring of 1943. It is most likely that he served with HQ Company (Originally, Company A during the Mariana Campaign) of the 4th Motor Transport Battalion on Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Since his last record on the muster roll is October 1945, Gibson was most likely discharged shortly thereafter and did so as a Corporal.I hope this helps.
