WWI US Ambulance Corps Trench Art Rooster Ring - Verdun Jamais

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Estate fresh. What I believe to have, please correct me if I'm wrong, is a WWI trench art ring for the US Army Ambulance Corps. The rooster is on the rings sweet spot and to the left is VERDUN and on the right is JAMAIS. Jamais is French for 'Never' or 'No Way.' The rooster is done in a repousse style being pushed out from the back. I don't know if it's brass with a silver wash or silver. Either way it's a very nice ring. Any opinions? Thanks.

Patchcollector

It could be an Ambulance Corps piece but at the same time it could also represent the attitude that a Rooster represents;that is,stubborn, cocky, and game to fight while never surrendering.Verdun was the largest and longest battle of the First World War on the Western Front between the German and French armies.

The rooster is a symbol of France: it dates back to the collapse of the Roman Empire and the formation of Gaul. It finds its origin in a play on the word 'gallus' (Latin for rooster) and 'Gallus' (Gallic or Gaul).
