Hello – I am new to the forum and wanted to reach out to anyone who may have any info on VMF-114 “Death Dealers.” I am producing a documentary about my cousin Maj. Robert “Cowboy” Stout, the CO of 114 who was KIA March 4, 1945 over Koror. I recently interviewed Glen “Bud” Daniel, Cowboy’s wingman when he was shot down, about his experiences and his book entitled “Cowboy Down.” While researching for this film, I stumbled across a thread on this forum re/ the rare 114 patch and thought I’d reach out. Cowboy was a Guadalcanal ACE and was the 1st Captain in USMC history to command a squadron after his CO “Indian Joe” Bauer went missing (VMF-212) Post Guadal, he and “Smiling” Jack Conger rotated back to El Toro to the newly formed 114. I am planning a trip to Palau this July, tagging along with the BentProp organization, to film the Peleliu area as well as retrace Cowboy's final bombing run over Battery Hill in Koror. Any help or info re/114 would be greatly appreciated – thanks!
