Picked up this old Basco beret with a very, very well made pinback badge for CV59 USS Forrestal.
The badge is unmarked pinback with detail that includes jets on deck!

I'm not sure these started out together.....   I love the pin, having served on the Forrestal, I'm bias.   Quite a few companies sell ships pins.   I think someone just put a ships pin on their beret.   Still its one of the better looking carrier pins I've seen.

I have several of these pins from the late 1950s/early 1960s. Essex Class carriers, (both straight and angled deck), and an F-8 Crusader. Oh, and a FRAM Fletcher Class DD. They were sold in the exchange and in ships stores.

Ship board Sailors didnt wear berets.

Thanks and Yes, I think it's a given the beret would have to be unofficial, 'party' or souvenir. I would love to see pics of some of yours, really amazing detail!

A French souvenir..looks like they're even in a hat shop.

Most likely the ONLY time they'd ever be worn in uniform, to see which one fit to buy it!!

HOWEVER..the beret itself is a Basco..which is from Italy..https://southpacific...-basco-roma.php

LoL Yes, all of that is correct.  I know it isn't combat, regulation, or worth much money.  Just thought it was cool.

Italian made Beret owned by a USN Lieutenant Commander (served to 1941-1968) with a Hong Kong tailored bullion patch.....
