I recently picked up what I believe to be an authentic piece but there is no date or maker markings as is usually seen.

Can anyone help me in determining when this piece may have been made?

The front looks good to me, the “us oval” is nice and deep. The only repro I have seen has a terrible, lightly pressed oval.

 

I agree, I’ve seen some (have one) that are or seem to be unmarked.

 

I’m not an expert, but I would have picked it up too.

I have always suspected the brass belt hooks to be earlier, perhaps no later than 1940/41? I think you've got a really nice piece!

Usually brass hook indicates WWI era. The flattened bottom "U" is often encountered on commercial M1916s. Strangely enough the big US is not horizontal.
