Wisconsin Mystery Lady’s Group
This Wisconsin Lady’s group of medals has left me puzzled since I first saw it ten years ago. To begin with I can only assume that this is a Wisconsin Group based on the middle medal. It could also be a Florida group based on the third medal which I think is less likely. Starting on the left there is a Gold Star Mothers Pilgrimage medal which indicates that the original owner lost a son in the First World War and that she took part in one of that groups visits to the American Military Cemeteries in Europe. The middle medal has the Wisconsin State Seal on what looks like a four leaf clover. This medal which is unknown to me, is why I think she was from Wisconsin. Could this be some kind of 4-H club medal? The third medal is engraved “STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RIFLE MATCH FLORIDA 1924” which tells us that she was an accomplished markswoman. Such contests are usually open to all who qualify even if they are from out of state. The reverse is marked B,B. & B. meaning it was made by the Bailey, Banks & Biddle company. Lastly she was still around after the 1947 when she got her Federally issued Gold Star Pin from which we know that her initials were F. C. C.
So here we have a sadly anonymous next-of-kin group to a lady who, like so many others, handled her loss quite well.
