ArchangelDM Posted April 14, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2018 Been offered this Bayonet and really like the used look of it, its a Tanto cut 1913 rock island blade. The grips are for a Springfield I believe on a garand handle. Whats your thoughts on this one, its up at $145 Yours Dean

SKIPH Posted April 14, 2018 Share #10 Posted April 14, 2018 ArchangeIDM- It;s a Rock Island Arsenal M1905 bayonet that was cut down from 16" blade to 10" during WW2, by "AFH" (American Fork & Hoe". The blade was cut into a Bowie, or Beak point due to the thinness of the fuller/blood groove being too thin for a spear point. These points tended to break on the older Springfield or Rock Island shortened bayonets. As far as the price of $145, that would be about as high as I might go. Try to negotiate, and see if the seller will go lower. The worst thing they can say is "no". Good luck! SKIP

SKIPH Posted April 14, 2018 Share #12 Posted April 14, 2018 Condition is normal for a 75 yr old used bayonet. Didn't notice anything wrong with it. SKIP

Lsparks Posted April 14, 2018 Share #14 Posted April 14, 2018 American FORK & Hoe. I like it too. Those composite grips might have been part of the process when it was shortened? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SKIPH Posted April 14, 2018 Share #15 Posted April 14, 2018 Lsparks- Thanks for the correction! Why I typed "American Farm & Hoe" is beyond me. I know better. SKIP
sundance Posted April 14, 2018 Share #16 Posted April 14, 2018 I had a problem with auto correct recently when I could not spell provenance Tool when describing a sword. I'm expecting this will change when I press post.

thorin6 Posted April 14, 2018 Share #18 Posted April 14, 2018 I think the price is a bit high; I've watched them sell (with the scabbard) in the $75-85 range in that condition.
1563621 Posted April 15, 2018 Share #19 Posted April 15, 2018 That is about the highest on that blade. Usually around 110. would be the high.
