jeremiahcable Posted April 11, 2018 Share #10 Posted April 11, 2018 Your marine is Clarence C Cliff, served from Dec 1919 to Aug 1924. Looks like he was with the 8th Marines, 5th Marines, and various duty stations in Haiti and the US. Love the blouse, hashmarks privates are something uncommon to find. kanemono Posted April 12, 2018 Share #18 Posted April 12, 2018 Great group. The pair of rosettes are very rare. Here are photographs of horse Marines in Haiti in the 1920's. After a long period of civil strife the United States military involvement in Haiti began on July 28, 1915 when U.S. Marines and Naval forces invaded Port-au-Prince, Haiti beginning two decades of U.S. occupation. Between 1915 and 1934, Marine officers and enlisted men commanded and trained the Gendarmerie d'Haiti to protect United Stated citizens and interests. Marines went into the interior to subdue native Cacos, who were rebelling against the government by terrorizing people, disrupting transportation and communications. This occupation lasted until 1934. The following photographs are from the photo album of Clarence E. Flook who served as a Marine in the 36th Company, 2nd Regiment, First Brigade U.S. Marine Corps, Port Au Prince, Haiti from 1925-1927.
