My friend asked me if I could give her any identifying information on this aircraft and pilot. I'm guessing it's a Navy or USMC North American NJ-1 trainer, but confirmation from an expert is appreciated and if you can tell what service branch the flyer is.

I agree that this picture is of a NAA SNJ.

Not sure about the pilot. Not familiar with the boots the pilot is wearing. Wonder if it could be a civilian instructor?

Navy pilot in training standing on a SNJ. Being as the aircraft is overall blue, he could be a Marine.

Thanks, fellas. This is what I know from my friend-- "granddaughter thinks he was in the Navy, but wasn't sure. Her grandmother was a Navy nurse, and that's when they met. He was allegedly shot down shortly after." I will pass on the information.

For sure it is a NAVY or USMC aviator. He use a MKI vest, M426 flight suit M450 flight helmet with MKII goggle which is most characteristic for USN or USMC aviators.

Regards,

Jerry
