spagg Posted April 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2018 Well, I thought I would break this one out! I got this from my Dad around 1982-83, he purchased from a US Armory sale in the very early 1960's. We had the original paperwork at one time but can't seem to locate it now. At the time I thought this was all original before really checking it all out. The highwood was sanded down as you can feel the uneven surface. The original sight was change out also. Has it's original sling dated 1942.The magazine pouch dated 1942 has been on this for as long as I can remember. The stock has the one cartouche (cross cannon) circle with letter P inside and 10 inside were the sling go through. Serial number 48XXX.I don't know if I missed anything but comments are welcome. tarheeltim Posted April 6, 2018 Share #13 Posted April 6, 2018 Nice gun with I-Cut Inland (IO) stock, congratulations! It's a shame someone sanded down the highwood section. Any idea to what degree the internal parts are matching (Inland)?

Any idea to what degree the internal parts are matching (Inland)? As far as I can tell all matching inside. The arsenal most likely sanded down.the highwood.. lambo35 Posted April 7, 2018 Share #15 Posted April 7, 2018 Very nice Carbine. The high-wood to low-wood conversion and change of the rear sight could have been done at the depot level. The crossed cannon proof looks to be the size that Inland used and the "I" cut stock is correct for the serial number, so IMO the stock is correct and probably original to the rifle. Congratulations! Frogskin7 Posted April 7, 2018 Share #16 Posted April 7, 2018 My grandfather told me that his buddies would sneak out M1 Carbine and Garand parts every time they went out (I guess on leave or something). Eventually they would have fully functional and complete rifles and would go hunting.

Chuck I'm with you on the depot. Some M1's would just be freshened up others totally rebuilt. This one had the high-wood issue fixed and replaced the fixed peep sight with a much better adjustable sight. Sal

I also remember when you could just go over to a gun store and lay down the cash and walk out with your weapon.. I'm talking about the left coast. USAmedalfreak Posted April 26, 2018 Share #19 Posted April 26, 2018 Nice carbine. I might have a chance at an Inland, what are the best parts to look at to be all original? Thanks
