Gerradtgrant Posted April 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 5, 2018 I have had this in my collection for a few years. I have always wondered about it's original era of usage. I aquired it from someone that bought it from the vet himself. The vet indicated he's had it since the early 60's when he retired from the Army. He was in Casper Wyoming at the Casper Army Air Field. I guess my question is can this be traced with the serial number that is provided? I would assume no, but always worth a shot to check with you experts. Has anyone seen another one? I have came up empty in my searches. Any info you can provide would be appreciated! Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
son of a Jungleer Posted April 20, 2018 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2018 Just a supposition on my part, due to the wood construction, the brass tags & the script on the Remington Rand tag, it sure has the feel of pre WWII production. Just sayin... Cheers, Jon...
illinigander Posted April 22, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2018 As a retired "federali" I think I can state that the serial number was only used by the property officer to keep his inventory straight. Sometimes locating items was a real search. Illinigander
aznation Posted April 22, 2018 Share #4 Posted April 22, 2018 Regarding the brass tag with the number on it, the RMA stands for Return Material Authorization, then Department of Army, then the Return Material Authorization number itself used for inventory tracking, repair, or replacement purposes. I believe CML Corps stands for Chemical Corps.
aznation Posted April 22, 2018 Share #5 Posted April 22, 2018 Guess as to era used, 40's-50's.
Gerradtgrant Posted April 28, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted April 28, 2018 Thanks for everyone's opinion on this, I didn't realize I got a response until now! Definitely chemical corps. About the era I assumed and was told it was. Cool piece to store my odds and ends militaria in. I would say it's in relatively good shape all things considered.
