manayunkman Posted March 31, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 31, 2018 We are in Western Kentucky today and finished cleaning out a house, One of the guys brought this to me. I went back into the trash for paperwork, looked through discarded photo albums and talked to family but no one knows the origin of this helmet. The cover and helmet were not found in the house together but look like they go together. The cover is almost brittle in some places and torn in others. Rust spots from the outside of the helmet match up with spots on the cover. But there is hardly a sign of rust on any of the cover toungues to match the newer rust on inside of helmet. Tomorrow I might have time to get better pictures and get the cover on. Any thoughts?

manayunkman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted March 31, 2018 Here is the inside which tells you they have been together for some time for the rust to transfer.

manayunkman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted March 31, 2018 I think the liner is a Westinghouse if I remember. Look how it's pushed in on both sides and it is scratched up by the swivel bails.

manayunkman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted March 31, 2018 The steel pot has an interesting olive drab color. No cork but silicon (?) in the paint? When did that transition happen cork to silicon? Those clips for the chinstrap attachment they are early 60s? The straps themselves look late or just post WW2 but the hook is 50s or 60s? The heat stamp is 49A with a "II" about a 1/4 inch in front of the 4.

ArchangelDM Posted April 1, 2018 Share #21 Posted April 1, 2018 Hi Mike thanks for the input. Do you think the paint job on the shell is 1950s? The Korean War repaints are usually a darker green - sometimes referred to as Apple green. I would say this has a Vietnam era look to it. manayunkman Posted April 1, 2018 Author Share #22 Posted April 1, 2018 In this picture you can see two rust spot on the top of the shell. These two spots left their mark on cover both inside and out. Sorry about these pictures, I'm still on the road, I know it's Easter.

manayunkman Posted April 1, 2018 Author Share #24 Posted April 1, 2018 It's darker than the Vietnam green. Isn't the Vietnam color refered to as "Apple Green"?
