I was very happy to pick up this little gem...Ames 1969 dated...US on the opposite side...the earliest that I have seen locally..found at the local Army Navy store...was found in a pile of other trifolds mostly 80s dated a few early 70s...this one was set aside, and was able to pick it up...

Feel free to post earlier tri folds..or any for that matter...

Jolly Good. I got a whole rig, 69 E-tool, 68 dated stuff First Aid Pouch with plastic snap etc etc, all unissued to excellent condition, like most, the only thing I'm missing is that darn Butt Pack.

Dated 1969! Marine reservists in the old New Rochelle based F 2/25 were still being issued the wooden handled M1943 e-tools in 1985.

I've heard many Marines say the old e-tools were better for digging and as improvised weapons.

No doubt the tri-fold is easier to carry.

I must agree with the Marines assessment

the trifold is lighter and corrosion free, but those old wooden shovels are robust...

We didnt see too many Etools issued in the USAF on the flightline...maybe the SPs saw them when in the field.....I didnt see my first trifold until 1996 or so...and thought it was new issue
