lamarhooten Posted March 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2018 Found these patches and many other Ord/Arty patches at a small show. All from an old collection. All Arty/Ord related. Have never seen this type of Davy Crockett pocket patch before. If it is one. I really do not think that you have to be too much of a marksman when firing this weapon! gwb123 Posted March 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2018 The SGT York looks to have been a contractor supplied patch. The system was an interesting idea that failed in field testing. As for the Davy Crockett Sharpshooter patch, that looks more like something for the Boy Scouts or a junior level gun club. USAUOD I believe is US Army Utah Ordnance Depot. ocsfollowme Posted March 19, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 19, 2018 Thank you for the correction. The reason for the ID can be found here: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/230696-usauod-police-united-states-army-umatilla-ordnance-depot-police-ssi/?hl=%2Bumatilla+%2Bordnance+%2Bdepot BLUF: the seller was local to the area from an estate sale. The base fabric is actually a wool...and in my WAG the Pendleton Wool factory was not very far away.
lamarhooten Posted March 19, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted March 19, 2018 Thanks for the info so far. The Sgt York patch is a contractor given patch. It has a 2 pin clutch back sewn on the back. I was already aware of the Umatilla Ord. patch having picked up three in Pendelton Or. back around 9/11. Really wanting to get a firm yes/no on the Davy Crockett patch. Would like to put together a better display of Davy Crockett related stuff.
Blacksmith Posted March 19, 2018 Share #7 Posted March 19, 2018 I think the Davy Crockett patch is non-military - and, looks unfinished. One sold on eb@y in Jaunary for $5. Identical, save it was in a different color. I've also seen Davy Crockett pins, patches, and watches sold under the Disneyana umbrella. That makes me wonder if there was a Davy Crockett exhibit or ride at Disney, and these were gift shop items.
lamarhooten Posted March 19, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted March 19, 2018 Thanks for the info Blacksmith. I am aware of the patch that sold on Ebay and even the possible Disney connection. No Disney connection yet. My brother-in-law work in the Disney film labs for years so I have some connections to history/past promos of the company thru him. None like this was sold at the park in the 50s/60s. It is most likely unfinished.
Blacksmith Posted March 19, 2018 Share #9 Posted March 19, 2018 Disney or not, it seems like a promotional item - possibly TV series stuff. Here is the recently-sold one. Twill backing looks like a match:
