Airborne-Hunter Posted March 13, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2018 I've posted this in the regular badges category as well, but I haven't been able to make heads or tails of this one - it belongs to a friend of mine and I think its newer (but have nothing to base that on) and he thinks older. I've never seen anything like it so I am unsure where the design even comes from? Size is about 2 inches. Made of brass stamped and folded over, hollow. Any thoughts on age? Authenticity? Purpose? Thanks ABN

pfrost Posted March 13, 2018 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2018 That is pretty cool. I don't think that it is a standard USN insignia. Thus, it is likely a sweetheart or commemorative type badge. Something given out as a souvenir piece? It it hard to know for sure. As for dates, the USN were using kite balloons up until WWII on convoy duty, if I recall correctly. Could also be a cracker-jack type premium thing. Pretty cool
