Stahlberg Posted March 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2018 I recently acquired this certificate through a trade with a local buddy, who found it in a pawn shop in Bozeman, Montana. I was thinking that there may be a possibility of there being more to the grouping, and have been working on tracking down any local living family. I was also able to extensively research this grouping, and write a full biography. Enjoy. William Henry Reif was born on November 28th, 1892 to George and Fannie Reif in Virginia City, Montana. William was the youngest of three siblings, with older sisters Harriet, Jennie, and Fannie. By 1900, the family was still living in Virginia City, and William and two of his older sisters were in school, and their father George was a volunteer soldier. On June 5th, 1917 William, age 24, registered for the draft out of Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana. At the time, he was employed as a “Millman” for the Butte Superior Company. He was also a Noncommissioned Officer in the Montana Infantry, and had been for 4 years. On April 25th, 1918 William Reif was inducted into the US Army at Butte City, Montana and was placed in 9th Company, 3rd Battalion 166th Depot Brigade until May 29th, 1918 at which point he was assigned to A Company, 361st Infantry, 91st Division. He was given the rank of Sergeant and Supply Sergeant on June 3rd, 1918 and three days later was sent to France. While overseas, Sergeant William Reif served in the Meuse Argonne Offensive, where he was “slightly wounded” on October 1st, 1918. Sergeant Reif was sent home on March 11th, 1919 and was officially discharged on March 26th, 1919. On June 28th, 1919 William H Reif married Marietta S Kerr in Butte, Montana. By 1930, William and Marietta were living in Bozeman City, Gallatin County, Montana, with their two daughters Mary and Hariette, and William was working as a division manager for a Power Company. On November 1st, 1969 William Henry Reif passed away in Bozeman Montana and is buried in Sunset Hills Cemetery, beside his wife.

Teamski Posted March 7, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 7, 2018 Pretty slick. Really hard to find these with an associated PH. They got separated quite easily. -Ski
