What era would this photo be

Found this the other day and it's none of my wife's family but I wasn't sure of the era. Does this look to be WW2 or 1 or are they even military? There are a couple names written on the back but it's not legible but I'm still trying to make it out.

WWI I'd say. Looks like the Pershing (?) tie, leg puttees, half button shirts...

Thanks, was able to make out the names Jack Rotruck and Bud Nines. Assuming Mineral county West Virginia.

I think the second name is Nine and not Nines. Still researching with little luck.

First, I could find no "Nines" with either Bud, or Buddy as a first name nor any with a middle initial "B".

 

There's two Nine's that might possibly be your guy.

 

One is: Walter B. Nine, born 1919

 

Other is: Charles B. Nine, born 1915

 

Both are from Rowlesburg, WV, about 61 miles from Mineral County, WV. Charles middle name is Buckner and I don't know what Walter's middle name is. One or both could have been nicknamed "Bud". The only military service I found for either was for Charles and he was a TEC5, U.S. Army in WWII.

 

In your picture, Jack Rotruck does look older than the Nine person, which I think is the case. Jack was born approximately 1882. I'm more inclined to think that of the two Nine's given, I would go with Charles B. Nine since he was born earlier and prior to WWI, and the fact that he did serve in the military during WWII. But it's your guess.

 

I did find a Buddy Lynn Nine from WV, but his date of birth was 1938 and if the photo was taken around the WW1 time period, obviously this would not be your guy.
