Hello everyone,

This is now my 1,000th post here on the US Militaria Forum. I can say with complete confidence that I would not be where I am in collecting without this forum. I have learned so much about the forum, and probably saved more money than my entire collection is worth. I joined the forum in February of last year and I find it fitting how about one year later I can reflect on how much this forum has helped me.

I started collecting US Militaria in 2016. Like many folks out there before I actually started collecting I had a big interest in History. I had always been especially fascinated with the military history of the 20th century, and it was movies like Saving Private Ryan that really solidified this interest for me. Before I really started collecting I had a few items that had been given to me by a family member who was also a military collector. While I had many of these items years before I say I started collecting, I never really considered myself a collector until later on.

The first item I ever bought was an 80's era M1 helmet, with 80's chin straps, a helmet net, and a vietnam era paratrooper liner. It was nothing special, but I liked for what it was and like all helmet collectors it spawned a really special love for collecting helmets which will most likely remain with me till the end of time.

Now I continued to buy things (mostly helmets) but I only ever looked on the forum as a guest. Usually when I was researching a specific items, a link to one of the many threads on this forum would pop up and I would look at it although I never really thought to register on the forum.

Now I finally joined the forum in February of 2017, after viewing the forum as many times as I did I decided to finally register and it was probably the best decision of my collecting career. The amount of knowledge I have gained from this forum has really benefited me in so many ways, especially when I first joined the community was very welcoming, now I believe my first post was on the new member introductions although it seems to have disappeared, if there is a way to view that again I would definitely be interested.

Now at that point I hadn't really strayed to far from m1 helmets because I never really felt confident to buy anything else, but after the help of this forum I was able to branch out and now some of my favorite things to collect are uniforms and field gear among other things!

Now fast forward to today and while my collection pales in comparison to many others of this forum I am content with what I have acquired over the last year and a half or so and I have attained lots of knowledge and a new appreciation for the men and women who fought and died in the things that I collect. It really is great to have a little museum in my own home too!

I would just like to thank all the members of the forum and everyone who has helped me during my collecting journey so far.

Thank you.

Regards,

huntssurplus
