Hello everyone -

I have been a frequent visitor to the site over the years and I finally decided to join - thank you for the administration of this site and thanks to all that participate to make this such an amazing resource.

My main interests lie in finding out more about what my family members experienced. I hope that I might also be able to share info with others to help connect the dots in their research.

Here are three family members that I am researching:

1 - US Army, WWII, Staff Sgt. served with 24th Division, 3rd Engineers Combat Battalion and Joint Task Force 132 (Japan, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands)

Service from May 1945 to May 1952.

2 - USMC, WWII, Corporal. India btry, 3d Batt, 13th Mar Div.

Went ashore at Iwo Jima.

Decorations include Presidential Unit Citation, WWII Victory, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Navy Occupation.

Service from Dec 1942 to Jul 1946.

3. AEF, WWI, Pvt. served with Co K 161st Infantry (15Nov1917 to 27June1918) then with Co G 102nd Infantry – 26th Division from 27Jun1918 to 17Jul1919.

His enlistment record shows involvement at:

Chateau Thierry – 18-26Jul1918

(recognized as “Aisne-Marne”)

St Mihiel - 12-18Apr1918

Argonne-Meuse Offensive - 18-21Oct 1918

It was here that he suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was hospitalized from Oct1918 to July 1919.

Decorations include the CdG with bronze star, and the Victory Medal with the three battle clasps as well as the Defensive Sector clasp.

and the Silver Victory Button. Additionally (and like many others) he has a ribbon bar with the VFW medal, and the so-called interim Victory Medal (which bears the colors of the allied forces) both of which I have been able to identify through this website.

- so thats all for now. I'm looking fwd to sharing and learning!

The "Silver Victory Button" was issued in silver for those wounded in combat. He would have been eligible to apply for a Purple Heart Medal after it was created in 1932.

Thank you - I just sent away for it (using DD149) we shall see what happens!

Hello, You will be a great addition to the Forum. My brothers father-in-law served in Iwo Jima with the USMC.
