hirsca Posted February 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2018 Not sure if I'm treading on thin ice with this item being French, but the inscription is from a USAF dependent in 1956, during the height of the US involment in the UK during the Cold War. Found at the woman's estate sale. Some of our members across the pond may recognize the bottle--most likely repurposed as her GS canteen. Enjoy. gwb123 Posted February 24, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2018 Cute. There are a number of overseas US Boy Scout and Girl Scout items that pop up now and then ...just a good reminder about the kids and spouses that accompanied their service member overseas. Thanks Gil. Not my area of interest, but I had to have it. Unique to me. Thanks again, Al
mghcal Posted February 25, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2018 Interesting. I'm always hearing stories from my mother about the time my grandfather was stationed at Upper Heyford from 1954-56. She was 12 years old in 1956 and I asked her if she remembered a Cholly Payne but she doesn't really remember anyone's name. This girl was the same age and living in officer housing so no doubt they knew eachother, it should come back to her in a couple days. Back then the airmen would "procure" all different types of field gear for the kids to toy around with. It was like a different world for an American kid who grew up on US bases. hirsca Posted February 25, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted February 25, 2018 mghcal--WOW! Thank you! Geat research you did. I hope that your Mother will remember Cholly Jo. I don't imagine there were too many other girls there with that first name. What a coincidence! What High School did she attend?
