Starnold Posted February 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2018 Not too familuar with Korean War militaria, but picking up tomorrow from a friend at work. It was his uncle Zach's during the Korean War. It looks like a H3 series pilots helmet made by Gentex. it also looks to be a complete helmet. I have not seen the goggles, but they also come with the helmet. Asking $100. I would appreciate any comments and value.

MattS Posted February 20, 2018 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2018 Looks complete and size Large, I'd give $100 for it without hesitation. Get as much info on Uncle Zach's as you can (full name, what he flew, when and where he was stationed, and a photo), it will only add to the value. Starnold Posted February 24, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted February 24, 2018 I did end up getting the helmet a couple of days ago. Still waiting on the goggles. Here are some more detailed pictures of it. I cannot tell for sure if it is a H3 or H4. As of now I only have the name of the pilot. Hollis "Ike" Isenhath. Born Hastings Michigan then moved to El Paso Texas where he died at the age of 69 in 1994. I did find some service in WWll in the US Navy. Navy Torpedo Bombing Squadron VT(N)91 1945. I have not been able to find anything on the Korean War. I should get more info on Monday and a couple of pictures after my friend talks to his Mother. Ike was his Mother's uncle. huntssurplus Posted February 24, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 24, 2018 Great helmet! The suspension reminds me of Vietnam era m1 helmet liners! Wonder if this was where they got the idea for it!Hunt

doyler Posted February 24, 2018 Share #14 Posted February 24, 2018 That's a beauty.Glad you picked it up. Something seriously cool about early jet helmets. I have a similar set up. Also a group to a vet who was late WW2 in a composite unit on a small carrier.States side mainly due to wars end.He stayed in and flew Panther jets and then cargo planes until retirement in 1964.Dont have his H$ but have one of his later helmets and masks

AMT500E Posted February 25, 2018 Share #18 Posted February 25, 2018 I think you are correct about it being an H3 based on the first photo in the group. Very distinct difference at where the ribs join at the top of the shell.
Starnold Posted February 25, 2018 Author Share #19 Posted February 25, 2018 Here is a picture of the top of the helmet. I have been trying to understand what the differences are between a H3 and a H4. I thought I read somewhere that the H4's were post war.
Bebel Posted March 8, 2018 Share #20 Posted March 8, 2018 H-3 helmet. H-4 was issued from about 1954. An easy way to distinct H-3 and H-4 is the difference on the webbing on each side of the shell. On the H-4 (see picture) the snap for attaching goggles is under the inner shell strap. This one is simplier as the one on the H-3 which has the googles fixing snaps directly in the middle of the strap. There are some other differences. But this one is the more easy to see.
