Browsing previous topics, whink seems to be consistently considered as the best way to remove rust from helmets. Does anyone know a better alternative to it for dealing with rust stains on web gear?

I would recommend not removing rust at all but rather keep the helmet in a low moisture room temperature room. That is the best way to preserve it!

Whink, while not the perfect product, is the best we have found thus far for our needs. Whink was actually designed for getting rust out of fabrics. Being careful with it and not letting it soak long is the key.

If you read the OP's question, he wasn't asking whether he should or shouldn't, and it wasn't a helmet question.

He's asking about removing rust stains from web gear.

Interestingly, Whink is found in the laundry section of stores. So, fabric is it's intended use. We helmet collectors tend to think it was made just for us. :)

That's my bad didn't pay enough attention to the original posting.

Is there a specific procedure that you use with it?
