Here is a Luger P08 captured by Corporal Augustus C. Laning Jr., Battery F of the 109th Field Artillery, 28th Division. Laning was severely wounded by shell fire at Apremont on October 4, 1918. The pistol was made by DWM and is dated 1915. At some point in its life the Luger was converted to .22. Everything matches, even the magazine, except for the toggle assembly.

Wow. So great that you have the info on Mr. Laning. By chance do you know where he was from? I believe a bunch of the 109th guys were from Phoenixville, Pa.

If I have the correct Laning, born March 1898, he's from Luzerne, PA, about 100 miles from Phoenixville.

I have your Luger's twin.....except mine doesn't come with a story so I can't show it here. Mine is still in 9mm caliber and is a very nice shooter after all these years! Great piece......
