aznation Posted February 19, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2018 From the inscribed wing I read: That first name looks like Nolin to me. Not sure about middle initial but looks like an R to me. Last name Baird Wing Sergeant Major Class 43-E V.A.F.S = I believe this is Victorville Advanced Flying School in Victorville, California which was a base used amongst other things to train bombardiers during WWII. 5thwingmarty Posted February 19, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2018 Nolin Rees Baird was a member of the Victorville bombardier class of 43-6. Attached is a scan of his portrait from a Victorville Army Flying School yearbook. He appears to have been one of the class officers as only he and two others are given a rank with their portraits. The rank given on the wing may have been that from his time as a cadet and not what he was made upon graduating. At this time, some bombardiers were given commissions while others were made Sergeants upon graduation. If you are interested, I have an extra copy of this yearbook.
