prestoncohunter Posted February 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2018 Found this at my inlaws and the band doesn't match any of the pictures or descriptions I find on the web so I thought I would come to the experts. It is made of what feels like a reenforced, waxy feeling cardboard. It was in an envelope that my mother in law had written: "This is Bert's (her sister) Arm Band that she wore when Mineral County would be having Black-out Drills during World War II. Wade (her brother) was Head Coordinator of the Mineral Co Civil Defense Unit." Just seems odd the graphic doesn't match anything I'm seeing. ocsfollowme Posted February 20, 2018 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2018 I am sure the blue has faded. Safety pins go through the holes to keep the arm band on.
Cobra 6 Actual Posted February 20, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2018 Hello! Yep, that is one of the CD insignia logos. Give me a few minutes to post a photo of the full selection. OK, it is Civil Defense Staff armband that has had some serious fading, Here is the chart:
prestoncohunter Posted February 21, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted February 21, 2018 Thanks for the info, never would have dreamed the blue would fade to gold.
Cobra 6 Actual Posted February 21, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2018 Well, the armband is made of oilcloth and if left between the wrong material, the paint has a tendency to adhere and pull away from the armband. So, it might not be only fading, per se.
prestoncohunter Posted February 21, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted February 21, 2018 We found it in a relatively new paper envelope but who knows how it was stored before. Thanks again.
